Logic puzzles you can play free — and how to solve them

Numerly is a free collection of over 1,800 logic and number puzzles, plus a timed daily challenge. Every puzzle is solvable by pure deduction: no trivia, no vocabulary, just a rule waiting to be found. Below is the method that works across every logic puzzle type, followed by places to practise it.

Types of logic puzzle on Numerly

Logic grid puzzles

Clues eliminate combinations until one arrangement survives. Solve them with a grid of ticks and crosses rather than guesswork.

Number logic puzzles

Circles, stars and chains where a hidden arithmetic rule links every value. Find the rule on the known pairs, then apply it to the gap.

Lateral and pattern puzzles

Letter-to-number swaps and sequence puzzles that reward spotting the transformation instead of calculating harder.

Timed daily challenge

One puzzle a day, five minutes on the clock, streaks for consistency. The fastest way to build deduction speed.

How to solve logic puzzles in five steps

  1. Read every clue before writing anything. Scan the whole puzzle first. The clue that unlocks it is rarely the first one you read.
  2. Write down what must be true. Mark the facts a clue forces directly. In a grid, that is a single tick; in a number puzzle, a confirmed relationship.
  3. Eliminate what cannot be true. Every confirmed fact removes options elsewhere. Elimination solves more logic puzzles than positive deduction does.
  4. Test one rule across the whole shape. Found a candidate rule? Check it against every known value. A rule that fails once is the wrong rule.
  5. Verify before you commit. Re-read the clues against your answer. A solution that satisfies all constraints is the only correct one.

Each puzzle family has its own shortcut on top of this method — see the full solving guides or the deep dive on how to solve logic grid puzzles.

Why logic puzzles are worth the five minutes

Logic puzzles train the habit of holding several constraints in mind at once and discarding the ones that cannot hold. That transfers directly to mental arithmetic, exam reasoning sections and debugging-style thinking. The daily challenge is deliberately short — one puzzle, five minutes — because consistency beats marathon sessions for building that habit.

Logic puzzle FAQ

Are these logic puzzles free to play?

Yes. Every puzzle on Numerly is free to play in the browser, with no account required.

What is the best way to start solving logic puzzles?

Start with elimination. Note what each clue makes impossible before you try to place a final answer — most logic puzzles collapse quickly once impossible options are removed.

Are logic puzzles good for children?

Yes. Number and grid logic puzzles train reasoning, working memory and arithmetic fluency, which is why they are widely used for grades 3 to 9 enrichment work.

Can I print these logic puzzles?

Yes. Numerly offers printable PDF packs with answer keys, plus a free sampler.
